Our History
Sensing a need in the developing western communities of Wellington, Royal Palm Beach and Lake Worth, the United Methodist Church decided to plant a new church in the heart of Wellington. In 1978, St. Peter’s United Methodist Church was launched with a handful of families in the home of our first Pastor, John Denmark, that would later charter on February 4, 1979. The church grew through personal contact and service to the growing families that formed the “Western Communities.” This was and is the core the foundation that the church was built on.
To meet the needs of the ever increasing number of children in our community, the church established the Christian Education Center. The CEC is still thriving and enjoys a well-earned reputation for quality and caring preschool care and education. Rounding out our campus in a multipurpose education building and a gym.
Over time, the church has grown substantially in its membership and in its church campus. From 65 charter members, the church has grown with members who desire to know love God and love others. We seek to do that by Gathering together in worship, Growing in our faith in various study and small groups and Going together in ministry serving others offering hope and seeking ways to relieve suffering in our community and around the world. From its inception, St. Peter’s was a congregation with a heart for service and mission. CROS (Christians Reaching Out to Society) was one of the primary missions in the early years and remains one of our partner ministries. A dedicated group from our church also served a major role in establishing the local Chrysalis and Emmaus communities here in southeast Florida as well as the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, Upward Basketball, Kafakumba Ministries in Zambia, Africa, and sister churches in Cuba.
We are continually looking at ways to serve out our calling to Connect All people to Jesus to experience God’s transforming love. We believe that you are a part of that journey are always looking for people who want to join us in this mission and seek ways to discern and live out God’s calling in your life. We hope that you will join us in bringing hope, life, and the eternal loving presence of God to this world.
